Today I met a girl who just graduated from Cal Poly and she was starting as a signer, working from 6am-3pm for minimum wage. I felt bad for her because she already has her degree. At the same time, it made me place a stronger value on MY degree from the best public university in the country. This feeling was confirmed later in the day when I found a picture of my store manager wearing a Cal cap. When I asked him if he was a bear too he said no, but he would much rather wear a Cal hat and with more pride than wear a hat from his own school.
Can you think of how I felt? I felt proud, accomplished and honored! I felt like the luckiest person! I wanted to yell out - I GRADUATED FROM UC BERKELEY!!!
Later when I went to go see my grandparents, my grandpa told my dad outside that he was proud to see that my college degree was paying off with a good job and that he loved my car and license plate!
I was reminded today THREE TIMES of how lucky I am to be able to say I AM A CAL ALUMNI. GO BEARS!
